Dahi Vadas / See and Savor w/Marlene Franco
marlene is my long time college friend from savannah! though it's been a while since then, marlene and i reconnected since we were both out in los angeles. so happy that we did as she is my new freelance buddy – be sure to check out her shiny new blog when you get a chance.

where do you want to go?
There are so many places in my wish list that I would love to visit. One that has been on my mind for a while now is, India! There are so many things about it that fascinate me. Its culture, folklore, major colorfulness, cuisine, street markets and the list goes on.

what do you want to eat/drink while you are there?
I would love to taste dahi vadas—deep fried balls made of ground lentils and served with yogurt and sprinkled with spices. A savory snack...Yum!

your favorite place to see and savor?
Peru is definitely one of my favorites! I visited Lima and Cusco several years ago, and it was such a wonderful experience. Seeing Machu Picchu and other inca ruins was mind blowing, but there is also so much more to explore while in Peru! Their cuisine is so tasty! Some of my favorite dishes are ceviche, lomo saltado (strips of sirloin steak stir-fried with tomatoes, onions, peppers with steak fries and served over rice) and papas a la huancaína (boiled potato with a creamy yellow aji chili sauce). Oh! And for dessert, suspiro limeño, a silky caramel-like base topped with a light and creamy liqueur meringue. Delightful!

See and Savor with Jade Broadus

December 26, 2013

See and Savor w/Jade Broadus
Galapagos Island / See and Savor w/Jade Broadus
Ceviche / See and Savor w/Jade Broadus
jade broadus is my travel all-star friend, blogger at vagabond3 and social media manager over at travel mindset. i can't even begin to name all the awesome places she has been just check out her blog if you don't believe me. fun fact about jade – her and her husband won around the world tickets on a virgin australia twitter challenge!

where do you want to go?
Ever since I knew what the Galapagos Islands were, I've wanted to travel there and experience it for myself. My husband and I are huge animal lovers and search out animal encounters or ways to see animals in their natural habitat on every trip we go on. I would love to walk on the beach with the sea lions, snorkel with seals, dolphins and turtles, and fall asleep on a boat while listening the waves around me.

what do you want to eat/drink while you are there?
The two things that I've been told are absolute musts are seafood ceviche and encocados, a fish or lobster dish served with a coconut cream sauce and rice. And since I love tacos, I wouldn't mind a few fresh fish tacos while we are at it!

your favorite place to see and savor?
London is always my first answer, as I lived there for six months and cherish that experience very much. It's a total walking city with some of the best food and cultures from around the world all within a short tube stop away. My other, less known place, would be St. Augustine, Florida. It's a small fishing/beach town with an old Spanish fort and the best fried shrimp and grits you'll ever eat.

See and Savor with Lindsay Stetson

Lamb / See and Savor w/Lindsay Stetson
today i'm excited to welcome, lindsay stetson – she's the very talented designer behind mstetson design and new mom of baby stets! i'm so grateful to be able to call lindsay my friends, she's been an inspiration and one of my go-to pals for all things business. let's see where she wants to jet off to.

where do you want to go?
I would love to visit New Zealand; we have a few friends that have lived there and it looks—and sounds—amazing. The scenery, the people, the adventures that await whether on the sand or in the mountains.

what do you want to eat/drink while you are there?
Known for its lamb, I would definitely have to try that… well, lamb, and, of course, a Tim Tam Slam — this is a 9-month pregnant lady talking here!

your favorite place to see and savor?
This is hard, but I think my favorite place right now is from our road trip in August. We travelled through 14 states for a one-week reunion with family in North Carolina. We munched on barbecue in all the southern states, but found our favorite at B's Barbecue in Greenville, North Carolina. Who knew we'd love vinegar-based bbq pork sandwiches?! I still crave it months later.

See and Savor with Beth Kirby of Local Milk

December 20, 2013

See and Savor w/Beth Kirby
Norway / See and Savor w/Beth Kirby
Faviken & Noma / See and Savor w/Beth Kirby
i can't even begin to describe how obsessed i am with beth kirby of local milk she's got an impeccable eye. both her photography and curation is amazing – she's probably one of the pinners i most frequently re-pin from. if you don't follow her go follow her now asap. i'm thrilled to have beth on my blog and even a few extra photos from beth for you too!

where do you want to go?
I'm nomadic by nature; wanderlust is in my veins. Portugal to Egypt to China to the comfortable ease of Provence and every corner in between, I can think of very few places I don't want to go. That said, right now I'm drawn to Scandinavia, probably born out of my interest in surreal landscapes, Elder Futhark runes, & nordic chefs. If I had my way I'd spend a few months trekking through Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway.

what do you want to eat/drink while you are there?
I wouldn't be able to visit Scandinavia without visiting Faviken & Noma. Those two restaurants are virtual culinary pilgrimages, and Chef Magnus Nilsson & Chef René Redzepi are both endless sources of inspiration and not just a little bit of awe. I would spend the entirety of my time eating as much seafood as possible, but I especially need (yes, need) to try Nilsson's signature dish: fresh scallops smoked over juniper branches.

your favorite place to see and savor?
I'm drawn to places in the world where the veil is thin. Ancient forests, precipitous mountains, and megalithic tombs. Ley lines and holy land. I'm also, of course, drawn to places with a rich culinary culture & vibrant local food movements. The place I've found in the world that has all of this and also happens to feel like a second home is Ireland. Spiritually it resonates with me like a bell, and the food we had during our travels there was remarkable. Ireland is very closely tethered, still, to farm life & the countryside, and I want to savor everything they have to offer: Burren Smokehouse salmon, Cashel Blue & St. Tola cheeses, homely brown bread, and foraged treasures like chanterelles, wild garlic, elderberry, nettle, seaweed, and sloe. I'm smitten with every facet of that country: the people, the food, the landscape, and the mystical vibrations. I can't wait until I have the chance to return!

See and Savor with Adrianna Adarme of A Cozy Kitchen

December 16, 2013

Japan / See and Savor w/Adrianna Adarme
Sushi / See and Savor w/Adrianna Adarme
you guys have seen adrianna on my blog a few times but in case you need a reminder, she is the mastermind behind a cozy kitchen. if you're not following her blog you should, as she is always cooking up delicious things – you'll see more from adrianna on the blog next year. oh! and if you're looking for the perfect gift for your pancake loving friend be sure to check out her book here.

where do you want to go?
Going to Tokyo, Japan would be dreamy.

what do you want to eat/drink while you are there?
Everything! Sushi, of course, but also the best yakitori, udon, ramen and soba. To drink? Probably lots of beer and sake. And in between meals, I'd definitely head to a cat cafe and pay money to pet and hang out with a bunch of apathetic cats.

your favorite place to see and savor?
If people have the opportunity to travel, I think everyone should visit Switzerland. When I was a teenager, my family took a road trip all over Europe and we drove through Switzerland (from Germany to France). It was just like the movies - snow capped mountain-tops, with red trains swerving through the mountains and lakes that were the most majestic blue-green color I've ever seen.

Brownies Salted Fudge / See and Savor w/Julia Kostreva
have you guys heard of julia kostreva? perhaps not, but i'm certain that you've seen her work that peach and orange notebook that i saw floating all over pinterest! ladies if you're looking for the perfect iphone case – she's got you covered! i was lucky enough to meet julia this summer at designer vaca – such a sweet gal and also an avid traveler too! lets see where julia's taking us today.

where do you want to go?
I’m building a list of places I want to go in Asia - Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Korea. But, in this very moment, I am craving an escape to Venice. The water makes it feel like an island of treasures. I’ve been there once with my family, once with my sister, once with a summer love, and I’d be silly if I didn’t want to go back again just for the romance of it. The tiny alleys and hidden quarters have a million things to discover.

what do you want to eat/drink while you are there?
The jewish quarter, or the Venetian Ghetto, has a wonderful thing for pistachios - and they are amazing. Venetian pistachio cake. Baklava with pistachios instead walnuts. Pistachio gelato. Pistachios on pasta. I’d love any of these treats, especially a fudge brownie with pistachios and sea salt.

your favorite place to see and savor?
Anywhere in Italy. The flavors are so rich and heartwarming. It’s a place where everything is fresh, and life goes just slow enough to really pause and enjoy it.

See & Savor with Maia McDonald

October 31, 2012

today i have maia mcdonald from conundrum here to share her version of see & savor. maia was one of the first pinners i had met and we instantly had lots to talk about. she's got a ton of energy and so much fun to be around.

what do you want to see?
This is so hard because there a million places I want to go and it seems like every week my "need to visit" travel list changes. Pinterest is the main culprit for causing major wanderlust. Recently saw this image of a Belgian cafe and it reminded me of when I was taking the train from The Netherlands to France and had a few hours to spare in Belgium. I barely got a taste of what the country had to offer and would love to go back and spend more time in their cafes.

what would you want to savor while your there?
Definitely plenty of their Moules Frites, such a stunning combination of deliciousness.

where have you been that you think everyone should see & savor?
Thailand is a must! I visited when I was 19 and can't wait to go back, it's actually at the top of the honeymoon list for my fiancé and I. There were 2 dishes in particular that really stick in my mind, one was a tabletop bbq, where we grilled our own meat and vegetables and the juices dropped into a delicious soup. The 2nd was the best cashew chicken I've ever had, I've tried numerous times to find the dish at Thai restaurants in the states that live up to it and haven't been successful yet.

what do you want to see? I would love to visit Seoul, South Korea.

what would you want to savor while your there? I would love to experience their street food, especially their spicy kimchi soup. I heard it's unlike any kimchi soup served in the U.S.

where have you been that you think everyone should see & savor? I think everyone should visit Venice, Italy at least once in their lifetime. Such an unique and beautiful city! I had my first squid ink pasta there. It was prepared simply with garlic and olive oil, yet the flavor and texture were so delicious and authentic! It's been three years now and I still remember that dish in my mouth.
