Shaved Brussel Sprout Salad

Shaved Brussel Sprout Salad with Warm Pancetta Vinaigrette
I guess the new year always calls for healthy eating right? After all the traveling I was doing in December I was welcoming some simple meals at home. Admittedly it's tough – its easier when you have friends to keep you accountable. I'm in a 30 day challenge with a friend to eat 80% clean with a little bit of cheats – somehow the ability to indulge sometimes makes it harder than to never indulge at all. One of the meals I've been eating a lot is this shaved brussel sprout salad with warm pancetta dressing. I think I first came across this recipe in a magazine but for the life of me I can't find it. So I've been making up things as I go from what I remember.

SHAVED BRUSSEL SPROUT SALAD WITH WARM PANCETTA VINAIGRETTE print this recipe!

2 teaspoons Dijon Mustard
1 tablespoon Maple Syrup

2. Combine salad ingredients in a large bowl and toss together with vinaigrette. Enjoy!

Brocamuebles | Buenos Aires, Argentina

January 28, 2014

One of our favorite shops in Buenos Aires was Brocamuebles it mainly runs as a textile and furniture store but they had a pop up shop with a special display of ceramics by Semana Ceramics Gres. It was beautiful work. We spent a few hours in the store trying to decide what was going home with us. The owner makes the furniture and her mother made the rugs. Here's a few snapshots from the store and a list of others Palermo favorites below!

Sabated Hnos – Awesome soap store, a little reminiscent of LUSH in the states.
La Joyeria – Jewelry store.
Kabinett – Small Design Boutique - fun polka dot walls outside
Calma Chica – Home and Textile store - carried small tote bags with fun patterns.
Gorrion – Cute backpacks and totes from Argentina. Loved the patterns and designs.

Buenos Aires, Argentina [Part Two]

Another neighborhood we wandered off to was La Boca. The neighborhood seemed to be built for tourist – but we loved the colorful walls on all the buildings. We enjoyed our very first Choripan in La Boca as well, it's a grilled chorizo (sausage) on pan (bread) it was simple but very tasty.

It was really hot while we were there so in an effort to escape the heat we decided to check out the modern art museum, The Proa. We didn't know what to expect but we fell in love with the work of Ron Mueck. Mueck creates these hyperrealistic sculptures watching the making of and then seeing the art in person was pretty spectacular.

We also made a quick hop day trip over to El Tigre – we took a boat ride around the river and explored some of the neighborhoods there. It was quite warm and humid while we were there so we didn't spend too much time there. There is a weekend market in La Tigre that is very popular but sadly we missed it. I'd recommend going back on the weekends.

Buenos Aires, Argentina [Part One]

January 21, 2014

My sister and I loved Argentina. It was the Europe of South America, our favorite neighborhood to wander in was Palermo. I've got more one of our favorite shops and list of tops coming to you later. In Buenos Aires, we spent a lot of time walking through all the neighborhoods. We stayed in a great airbnb that I'd highly recommend if you are planning a trip to BA. Our host, Veronica was fantastic.

Of course we had a lot of food. My favorite was a meal from Minga it was by far one of the best steaks I had ever had. I can't really describe it in words but the meat was so flavorful, tender and juicy. Tegui was highly recommended by many friends but unfortunately we didn't get to try it, but hope to someday return.

Malba - Buenos Aires, modern art museum was beautifully designed and a great way to beat the heat. The temperatures were in the 90's and humid while we were there. We sought relief in many museums.

We explored lots of markets, the most popular one was the San Thelmo Flea Market Sunday market. It was massive lots of crafts and textiles. We loved all the pottery there, it was too bad pottery isn't easy to transport or we would have bought ourselves a ton!

Every restaurant we ate no matter what type of cuisine seemed to always serve a bread basket. The bread was rarely warm and there was always a mixture of breads – talk about carb load. And one of the best things was every restaurant had little purse hangers! So handy.

Of course, lots and lots of empanadas. I won't lie - we were pretty tired of them by the end of our trip.

Getting Organized with See Jane Work

January 17, 2014

One of my favorite things about school was all the new back to school supplies – as an adult I still get really excited about binders, folders and notepads. When I heard that See Jane Work had a line at Office Depot I was thrilled. New year means it's time to get all my business tax papers in line from 2013 and start new folders for 2014. Today is the day, to get it done. (And to start all those resolutions you've made!) Here are some things I like to do to keep myself organized.

Clean and clear your desk. I always try to start my day with a clean desk, though it tends to get messy as I work through the day. I think a clean desk makes for a less anxiety filled day. If you have a ton of important papers put them into binders or properly labeled folders. If you don't need the hard copy - SCAN everything and save it on a hard drive.

Keep only what you need. On the same note of keeping your desk clean and clear. Don't leave anything on your desk that you don't use on a daily basis.

File receipts. I keep all important receipts in one of these expanding cases labeled by the month.

Keep desktop accessories to a minimum. As tempting as it is to buy those cute trays and organizing boxes – try to keep those at a minimum. I've found that those boxes just helped me save more clutter because it was hidden even though I didn't really need it.

Happy 2014!

January 06, 2014

In case you don't follow me on instagram I wanted to take the time to say thank you for following along and reading this blog. 2013 was a good year. I left my full time job to pursue another passion of mine. I was nervous and scared but I made it! I can proudly say I made it in my first year as a business owner. I met a lot of wonderful and talented new friends, saw new parts of the world, and ate a lot of good things. I wouldn't be where I am without the support of all my family, friends (new and old) and you – I truly appreciate all the comments, love, and support here. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to make a living doing what I love everyday, and thankful to have you all along the journey. I cautiously proceeded in 2013 but in 2014 I am ready to challenge myself further take bigger risk and accept failure when and if it happens. Reminding myself that failure isn't bad it's part of the journey to success. Thank you for following along, for your support and your kindness. I look forward to sharing some amazing and wonderful new things with you all in 2014. Wishing you all a wonderful and successful new year!
