What I'm Packing – Backyard Adventure

Backyard Adventure packing
I am so excited about a trip I have with REI Adventures next week. I'm headed to Superstition Mountains for a four day weekend adventure. REI is my go-to spot for getting assistance on what I should pack for my trips including places like Half Dome and Manchu Pichu. I've got my backpack fitted just for me and wanted to share with you some of the things I am packing with me. (I wouldn't consider all of these essentials you can check out REI.com for a backpacking checklist.)

fig 01.
Snacks! Nut butter and energy chews are some of my favorite go to snacks. I remember the first time I went hiking and my friend handed over some energy chews – It was a serious bolt of energy. It was hard not to want to eat the entire bag, I would say these are definitely a life saver for helping me get through some of my tougher hikes.

fig 02. GoToobs are in my everyday travel packs and my backpacking pack. I like to transfer things like sunblock into the smaller containers to conserve on space.

fig 03. Headlamp plus an extra pair of batteries, so you can see after nightfall.

fig 04. Lifeproof Waterproof Case to get all the shots along the way including the ones in the water and a Mophie Juice Pack to keep your battery lasting. I know you are thinking isn't the point of backpacking partially to get away from technology? Yes but this is a much lighter and easier way to capture the moments a long your trip instead of lugging a DSLR!

fig 05. I love this Playtapus Hydration pack. I prefer this version over camel backs because it has an extremely wide opening so it's easier to clean. I also like to use a bite valve cover to keep the bite clean.

fig 06. Layers. I tend to always be hot so when I hike I am usually in a a tank top but once the night falls it's time to layer.

fig 07. Who says backpacking can't be cute? Love these To-Go Ware utensils. For eating while on the go.

fig 08. This sleeping bag will keep me warm on my spring trips through late autumn – fun tip I learn from the guys at REI is purchasing a compression bag to stuff your sleeping bag in to make it even more compact. (Also you can zip together the men's sleeping bag to make one giant sleeping bag! how cool is that?)

While backing can sort of be a love/hate relationship for me the reward you get after making it to the top is well worth the fight to get there. Over the next month I'm going to share some of my favorite backcountry spots in addition to some on my wanderlust list all over the US over on Pinterest. I hope you will join me on this adventure!
