last week i was in new york for work and of course had to made a few stops for food! since new york is all about food stops for me i decided to walk around instead of taking the subway. got a chance to check out eataly and i has to be one of my new favorite spots! an eatery also filled with fresh produce, meats, cheeses, pasta (LOTS OF PASTA), and a whole lot more. it is so much more than just your average market with food, i could spend hours there. definitely a recommendation for all food lovers next time your in new york!

love these new upcycled clutches from poketo. they are made from vintage leather sofas how cool is that!? no two clutches are the same so you can order by color range. they are perfect for a casual day.

vanilla + blueberry 'crumb cake'

at the food photography and styling workshop i got to meet gaby from what's gaby cooking she made this scrumptious vanilla and blueberry crumb cake and recently posted the recipe so i gave it a try last weekend. i had to improvise on some things since i couldn't find my zester or sifter. in the end it didn't look as pretty and was a bit more on the muffiny side but it was definitely super delicious.

long beach flea market

after two years of living in long beach, i finally got the chance to check out the long beach flea market. i've been seeing lots of goodies from the lgb flea market on secrets from a stylist so i was excited to go check it out. lots of letters! big ones... and little ones... and furniture! be prepared to walk through many aisles when you go.

spotted the barn photo on pinterest the other day and it gave me an instant feeling of joy. i did a little digging and learned that it was created by artist maya hayuk. i love her use of bright and bold colors, she was also featured on etsy in 2008. check out more of her work on her website mayahayuk.com

here a few behind the scenes from saturdays workshop. here is adam showing us his grill mark technique - best part you get to play with a blow torch!

it was so great to meet everyone and be able to work out of matt's studio conveniently located six minutes away from my house! the studio/loft space is beautiful – im might need to move next door (there is actually a vacant unit!) and check out their prop room! more dishes and cups you could ever imagine.

dollops! ok.. dollops are really hard! i spent a lot of time trying to perfect my dollop instead of styling my shot. i used the entire tub of cool whip :) i promised i didn't eat any! adam taught us a technique to making the perfect dollop but it definitely comes with practice. above are the styled desserts from krystal regueiro (right) and melissa gardner (left). below is my dolloped dessert.

food photography + styling {part two}

up next: pasta! pasta was a little difficult. we started out with a few selections of pasta – for some plates they build everything on top of mash potatoes so that it fills the plate more and give it some volume without the layers of pasta underneath. for my past (above) i didn't use any mash potatoes but i did move the pasta on and off the plate about four different times! who would have thought plating pasta would be so difficult?

check out pasta styled by nancy buchanan of a communal table (left) and melissa gardener (right). i think melissa used some mash potatoes on hers but not sure about nancy did.

on saturday i took a food photography and styling workshop with photographer, matt armendariz and food stylist, adam pearson. it was so much fun. matt and adam are so down to earth and fun to be around - there was not a dull moment. first styled photo for the day: burgers. my styled burger topped with zucchini and heirloom tomatos pictured above. does it make you feel like summer?

livet emma ikea hack

look at this beautiful ikea hack – seems simple enough to do. i am curious to see how much weight it would hold once it gets a little higher but i definitely want to try this out in my house. great way to add a pop of color.
